Quarantine was a major hassle, but the dogs coped well. They really seemed to bond and have been inseparable since they came home. They adapted to a new kennel quickly and like being inside watching the TV (much to Bob’s surprise as they had never been indoors) .

With regards to the difference in working them – it would have to be temperature and trails. They find anything above freezing, warm and I have to be very vigilant to ensure they don’t overheat. The nature of our trails have also caused a few difficulties – they were not too impressed with the rutted stony trails we were using but have got used to them. However, on smoother ground,  they have a beautiful fast gait.

Increasing interest in running longer distance, meeting John Coyne and his Seppalas and researching/reading lots about the successful racing history of the breeding line and the nature of the dogs. Having decided on the Seppala bloodline, we didn’t want to put pups through the rigours of quarantine, so we looked for mature adults with a racing history. Vader had run on Bob Davis’ first string 12 dog race team the previous winter and had logged a lot of miles. We liked Beth’s size and she had shown some ability on Bob’s training team.

Vader & Beth were flown in from Boston, into quarantine kennels near Glasgow. Their previous owner drove them to the airport, got turned away as the tip of Beth’s ears touched the roof of the crate and had to bring them back the next day. Harry is still in the US, sitting out his 6 months rabies shot wait for his pet passport. We are going to go over and fly home with him when he is allowed in.

First place 6 dog team in their first race here at SSHC event in March 03. Producing 8 beautiful puppies.
